Our “Philosophy” (the waffle-y bit…)
We are a family pub serving a wide selection of drinks & good wholesome hearty food, aiming to provide great value without sacrificing any quality; we want you to feel that you have spent your hard-earned money wisely when choosing to visit us!
We source our produce from local businesses wherever possible. Our chef prefers to make most items from scratch (his chilli jam & chutneys are particularly good!) & for the sake of clarity, when our menu says “homemade” it means made here on the premises. An example of this is our Angel burger – made from locally sourced beef mince and blended with Chef’s special spices here, then the mix is returned back to our butcher who presses them in small batches. This means that we know exactly what is in all our dishes, enabling us to cater confidently for food allergy sufferers.
We are trying to minimise our environmental impact through reducing the amount of packaging we buy in (that’s why our peanuts & snacks are served in bowls rather than difficult to recycle foil backed plastic!) & our waste is treated through a recycling facility and only the minimum is land filled. Our glass is recycled separately, and the rebate is donated to St Elizabeth’s Hospice, which raised over £140 in 2009 (please feel free to use our bottle bank); also we are trialling a recycled sawdust pellet fuel for our open fire which is again sourced locally in an attempt to reduce the amount of coal we burn!
